"I believe that we have not even begun to tap human potentialities, and that by continuing humble but persistent study of human behavior, we can learn consciously to create civilizations within which an increasing proportion of human beings will realize more of what they have it in them to be."
Academics
What if you could maximize your influence in the world, help others reach their highest potential, and do it all while obtaining a graduate degree?
The Wright Graduate Institute can help you realize this dream by combining the best of philosophy, psychology, and education with cutting edge strategies that maximize your personal and professional success.
Our curriculum reflects the truth that with every choice you make in the course of a day, you are authoring your life and creating your experience. You choose the faculty, seminars, readings, and projects that align with your interests. You set the agenda with a mentor who champions your learning and growth. You decide when and how you'll have your work in each course reviewed and graded.
All courses (called "Areas of Competence" or ACs) in our tutorial model contain a mix of traditional academic elements, experiential learning, and opportunities to apply that learning in every area of life:
- Overview: Broad perspective on the major theories, themes, competencies, and concepts.
- Depth: Critical reflection focused on one specific area of study or one or two authors or theories. Important groundwork for doctoral dissertations.
- Experiential: Analyze and assess your own engagement with the concepts, theories, strategies, methods and other tools explored and developed in the depth and overview sections through daily/weekly assignments and weekend seminars.
- Applied: Generate new learning and insight by implementing your learning in work, family, and community settings, and reflecting upon your results.
You and your faculty assessor customize each area of the AC according to your interests, producing a contract documenting the mode and schedule for assessing your learning. You will meet with a mentor who supports you to succeed in completing your academic tasks and in developing a vision and transforming your life.
Courses are self-paced so you can schedule your deadlines and study periods. Meet with your assessor by phone, in person, or by exchanging documents via e-mail or web. Experiential requirements such as seminars and laboratory groups are held in the early morning, evenings, and weekends to accommodate working professionals, and distance learners can participate by phone and webcams.
Full-time study at the Wright Graduate Institute is one eight-credit course per thirteen-week quarter; however, courses have flexible end dates and may be completed over more than one quarter to allow for maximum learning and growth as you and your assessor see fit.
I wasn't ever good in school. I limited myself and let others limit me. I didn't think I'd ever have the capacity to learn what I'm learning now. The non-traditional learning atmosphere at WI is taking those barriers down. I'm not reading and taking a test—I'm engaging in my education and living what I'm learning. There's no excuse for me not to learn!
